KioskIce rescue
A small program that lets KioskIce support reach a machine's router when the machine is offline. Use it only when support asks you to.
What you need
- A Windows or Mac computer with an Ethernet port, or a USB Ethernet adapter.
- Wi-Fi or a phone hotspot with Internet on this computer.
- A network cable.
- Your machine number and the access code given by support. The code expires after a few hours.
Stay in contact with support during the whole procedure.
1. Download
Windows Mac (Apple chip) Mac (Intel)Version 1.0.1. This program is not signed. SHA-256 fingerprints are at the bottom of this page.
2. Start the program
Windows: double-click the file and accept the administrator request.
Mac: open Terminal and run the lines below. Your Mac password is requested, and nothing appears while you type it. Replace the file name if you downloaded the Intel version.
cd ~/Downloads
chmod +x kioskice-rescue-mac-apple
xattr -d com.apple.quarantine kioskice-rescue-mac-apple
sudo ./kioskice-rescue-mac-apple
A page opens in your browser. Keep it open until support confirms the end of the procedure.
3. Enter your details
Enter the machine number and the access code. Leave Support server as it is, unless support gives you another value.
4. Step 1: router LAN port
- Keep this computer on Wi-Fi with Internet.
- On the router, unplug the cable from the LAN port. Remember it: it goes back in step 2.
- Connect this computer to the router's LAN port with the network cable.
- Click Run step 1.
- Wait until the page shows CONNECTED, and tell support. Support works on the router, then tells you when to continue.
5. Step 2: router WAN port
- Unplug this computer from the LAN port.
- Put the machine's cable back in the router's LAN port.
- Connect this computer to the router's WAN port with the network cable.
- Click Run step 2. This computer now shares its Internet with the router.
- Keep the computer on until support confirms.
6. Finish
Click Stop when support asks you to. You can click it at any time to end the access. Then put the cables back as support tells you.
The program never asks for a router or machine password. If anyone asks you for one here, stop and call support.
File fingerprints (SHA-256)
